Karl fancomic: D Minor Pt 1?

Description

First Non-Hetalia Art (which I will get back to soon enough haha)... didn't have time to do shading, but I tried to do more inking for this comic. Not sure whether I will be doing a part 2, but man, I can't believe I actually did a whole comic on an original character...

But there is something about the way :iconunknown-person: weaves a story and fleshes it all out in both comic and animation form that really inspired me. I felt so much for all his characters... and especially Karl (even though he is evil) because of his complex and intriguing backstory.

Unfortunately, unknown takes a very long time to update, and so I just drew this comic in tribute to him. It was inspired by the screencap here which hinted that Karl and red-head girl (RHG) were pretty intimate (so don't flame me because the r/s between a living statue and a human seems quite canon!)

WARNING: Theorizing ahead, so skip this if you are not a fan of unknown-person, although I really really recommend you check out his gallery and see his work, because he is amazing.

From the looks of the flashbacks, I doubt Karl was ever as innocent as Climber. He obviously didn't care much for rules (when he directly ignored orders from the pirate 'captain';), and seemed pretty charismatic and confident in himself by that time. And assuming that living statues don't know how to read/write when they are created, and RHG taught him, I would guess that they knew each other for quite some time (or Karl is a super genius at everything).

I think Karl already did have a dislike for humans (hard to imagine someone with his personality being able to stand being forced to remain still while humans can move freely), but was not psychotic. Then he met RHG who was different from all the humans (I think it was by accident that RHG discovered him, probably listening in to her music, and instead of being hostile, actually befriended him and taught him to read/play the violin). Then the relationship deepened and became rather mutual (as seen in the screencap), but I believe RHG later probably told him that it was not to be, because there is no future being with a statue (lol).

I think Karl got seriously pissed off at this point. Because he is being discriminated against for not being human, and because of such unfair rules, this prevents him from being with RHG.

The flash with the guy in the coat may be someone whom RHG is loyal to (not sure if it was love), and hence she did not try to stop him when he threatened Karl with the gun. But I think she was horrified when Karl was shot at. However, Karl saw it as an act of betrayal which culminated in him snapping and killing coat guy, and then being violent towards RHG (for someone'e personality to change that much, it sort of hints that Karl gave up A LOT of things for RHG).

It is heavily implied in unknown's comic that Karl killed her, "After our last meeting... I didn't expect you to be... around." But after hearing the desperation and bitterness in Karl's voice when Law of Talos disappeared, I really believe he still feels a lot for her and I think Karl blames everybody for his misfortune... he blames the Castle/Climber and the rest for their meek obedience to humans, he blames humans because of their intolerance, and hence he hates everybody. He probably hates himself the most, which is why he wants to drag everyone down with him.

I just would like to know what his wish was. For his wish to match the Law of Talos, I don't think it was as simple as "I wish all humans were extinct"... and I find it curious that Lot attempted to entice him with, "Don't you want to play the violin together with me again"-> obviously an appeal to his feelings for RHG.

And for the mistake... I think it might be the act of trusting someone and getting betrayed/hurt in the process. For he did trust the Law of Talos, and joined hands with her (I found it haunting that both Karl and LoT said "Nevermore" together in the flash) and in the end, she did it (betrayed) to him again.

Extra note:

To me, I find it interesting that unknown picked the poem "The Raven" and the fact that Karl knew the poem. Hence it appears that Karl reads a lot and literature is one of those. And looking at it symbolically, The Raven is a poem about a lost love, and how the persona wanted to forget about her and yet could not- and in the end went mad. There are so many parallels in the poem and the potential Karl storyline so I don't think it was only coincidence that unknown picked that particular poem.

LOL- I can't believe I wrote this much. And if you managed to read until here, and would like to theorize along with me, please do so... it would be interesting to hear other POVs :D

Hope you guys enjoyed the comic as well!
